LA-based up and coming composer Ennis Harris will premiere 'Images & Silhouettes,' a commissioned composition for a 17-piece band. The Mat Maneri Quartet will perform material from his latest release 'DUST' to close out the night. On Saturday, October 28, Nicole Mitchell will premiere a multimedia piece dedicated to her late mother entitled JBM: Images and Beyond. Opening the night there will be a showcase coordinated by New Music USA featuring grants from The Next Jazz Legacy program, which is devoted to increase opportunities for female or gender non-conforming musicians and is a partnership between New Music USA and the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice with support from the Mellon Foundation and Joe & Nancy Walker. $100 donation. In August of 1961, the John Coltrane Quintet played an engagement at the legendary Village Gate in Greenwich Village, New York. Coltrane's Classic Quartet was not as fully established as it would soon become and there was a meteoric fifth member of Coltrane's group those nights - visionary multi-instrumentalist Eric Dolphy. Ninety minutes of never-before-heard music from this group were recently discovered at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, offering a glimpse into a powerful musical partnership that ended much too soon. 2-disc vinyl LP set, 5 copies available.

$100 donation.The Doors were a few months away from stardom in March 1967 when they played five sparsely attended shows at a small club in San Francisco called The Matrix. These uninhibited performances would have been fleeting if not for Peter Abram, who co-owned the pizza parlor-turned-nightclub with Jefferson Airplane founder Marty Balin. An avid recordist, Abram taped concerts at The Matrix regularly and his recordings of The Doors, made between March 7-11, 1967, spawned one of the band?s most storied bootlegs. At long last, all known Matrix recordings, sourced entirely from Abram?s original master recordings, released Sept 2023. Initially hosted by Paul Robbins and Peter Bergman, the self-appointed 'Wizard of Oz,' it marked the beginnings of what later became Firesign Theatre, a cultural phenomenon of brilliant, improvisational lunacy courtesy of David Osman, Phil Austin, Peter Bergman and Phil Proctor.
